Garage Software and Compliance Records Explained

Two different categories of tool

FileGuard is in the second column. It is not a garage operating system: it doesn't produce job cards, manage invoicing, or track parts and stock. Workshops typically run it alongside whichever job-management system handles those functions.
What tends to get missed between the two systems
- Lift and lifting-equipment examinations falling due with no reminder anywhere.
- MOT bay equipment calibration certificates stored in email rather than against the equipment.
- Technician qualifications and training expiring without anyone noticing.
- Insurance, waste carrier licence and site documents that are hard to find at short notice.
A buyer's checklist
Whichever job you're solving, check:
- Does it do the specific job you need (job cards, or compliance records) — not a vague mix of both?
- Can you attach the actual document (certificate, report) to the record it belongs to?
- Can you set reminders ahead of a due date, and does the schedule depend on dates you enter and keep current?
- Does it support more than one site and more than one user, with role-based access (admin, manager, editor, viewer, auditor)?
- Is there a record of who changed what — an activity log you can show at review time?
- What happens to your data and documents if you stop paying — can you export them?
